Excited by the possibilities of regenerative textiles

I’ve been part of Fibreshed Scotland’s core team since mid-2023.  I’m excited by the possibility of bringing together a community of practitioners and thinkers interested in the ideas and ideals of regenerative textiles.  I’m fearful of the economic trajectory we’re on, and the threat to the climate that this creates. I believe that through a focus on a localised textile production we can work together towards a viable alternative, based on re-learning and adapting traditional skills and knowledge, and co-creating a brighter shared future.

I’m a keen knitter and stitcher, and textiles have followed me throughout my life including living in Lesotho where I was adviser to the Clothing and Allied Textile Workers Union, and in Tanzania where we set up a small but thriving women’s co-op making patchwork quilts from locally made and up-cycled fabric.
