Welcome to Fibreshed Scotland. In introducing ourselves and Fibreshed Scotland, we’re drawing on the Core Values of the Fibreshed movement internationally.
Our team is made up entirely of volunteers who feel fully committed to the ideals of a Fibreshed soil to soil cycle – prioritising soil health in the choices we make, as the basis of a healthy ecosystem.
We value collaboration – working together without hierarchy, playing to our individual and collective strengths as we plan and carry out activities. In 2024 we produced a Fibreshed banner in a truly collaborative way – the materials (all natural fibres, naturally dyed) were given to us, and the stitching of all the parts was crowd sourced with ten different people involved.
We aim to be as inclusive as possible:
- We meet weekly at midday on Fridays and anyone is welcome to come along and participate.
- Our outreach activities spread information and opportunities for creativity, to those who might not otherwise know about Fibreshed and the alternative to fast fashion that it offers.
- We recognise that we are all moving towards regenerative practices in different ways and at different paces, so we not judging any individual’s current approach. We’d just like to know we’re all broadly aligned in where we’re going
We are Scotland-wide, but our focus is also local and bioregional. The globalised textile industry is inimical to the health and well-being of so many of those involved in it, from producers to consumers. We work actively for economic transformation – exploring (through discussion, and our own individual initiatives) the viability of alternative, equitable and regenerative approaches to fibre production and processing to meet clothing and textile needs.
Our activities currently include monthly speaker meetings, periodic newsletters and whatsapp chats and instagram posts (for sharing information and ideas), outreach activities and workshops.
